NEW YORK — Marc Jacobs was beaming. “Next season, let’s just do a small show for 20 people…only 20 looks,” he said backstage in the early moments following the first runway show of a two-run program. The sentiment is not difficult to understand, given the roaring reception his tightly focused Fall 2019 runway show had just received Wednesday night at the Park Avenue Armory. With 40 looks in the collection, there was absolutely no fat to be found. Half as many would pack an absolutely wallop. Brilliant as the collection was, Marc’s best in recent seasons, it was no match for the show’s opener, Ugbad Abdi. She caught the eye last month at Valentino and firmly held that gaze here on the final stage of New York Fashion Week. Joining Ugbad on the runway from across the Next global network were Tang He, Hiandra Martinez, Lineisy Montero, Cara Taylor, and Anok Yai.
