This story by photographer Nadine Ijewere running in Garage Nº16 has been filling feeds over the last week and rightfully so, it is so refreshing! What makes the series so stimulating is its celebration of color and the myriad meanings color has from melanin to thread pigmentation. Titled “Black Cotillion,” the sprawling feature includes four beauties at Next including Lineisy Montero, Hiandra Martinez, Eniola Abioro, and Selena Forrest. Born in London, Ijewere is of Nigerian and Jamaican heritage, a fact of her biography that plays out in dazzling ways on the page. Take for example Lineisy and Hiandra (pictured), off-camera besties, both lock arms and gaze at the camera wearing dresses by Marc Jacobs. This is the embodiment of the black cotillion, a formal ball that will last all night, and likely for posterity.
