Dance has long captivated fashion. Nary a mood board that goes unadorned with the tacked clippings of dancers throughout the ages. Dior based its spring ready-to-wear collection and campaign on dance after all. The April 2019 issue of Vogue Czechoslovakia has duly followed suit for a pair of Swan Lake inspired covers, both featuring Grace Hartzel, and corresponding cover story. Photographed dan Beleiu and styled by Jan Králíček, the white swan cover (pictured) features Grace wearing a couture dress by Dior, the black swan cover a dress by Celine. Odette and Odile, the respective white and black swans of Tchaikovsky’s ballet, are traditionally played by the dancer for the sake of continuity. The same is true for these covers, which as time goes on will no doubt figure into future mood board configurations.
