Marriage rates are down in the West. Were it not for gay marriage’s reinvigoration of the institution, the union of two people might well and truly have breathed its last breath. That said, there is life yet in all things matrimonial. Look no further than the May 2019 edition of Vogue Nederland (the 100th issue!) for a bridal story featuring lovely maidens Myrthe Bolt and Mia Speicher. Any readers expecting the staid fare found in impulse periodicals crowding the supermarket till will be pleasantly surprised by the fresh take of photographer Tung Walsh and stylist Gijse Ribbens. This is no exercise in the sentimental, far from it, the aesthetic here is sobering, deadly earnest. The resulting 10-page feature is refreshing and, yes, sexy. All told, this is a fine advert for brides, however and whomever they choose to marry.
