Few experiences in anyone’s life can be as wrenching as the loss of a mother. Experienced by a young person, that pain is magnified to what can be an excruciating intensity. Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond lost his mother and label namesake Vania Moss-Pierre at the age of seven and has channeled that experience into a new film written and directed by the acclaimed Director X. The film centers on the life of a young boy played by Xavier Mack, who lost his mother, and ultimately gains seven mothers in return who help raise him and make him the man he will one day become. Riley Montana lovingly plays one of the matriarchs, notably the fashion mother, and brings to the screen the very energy that makes her the stand-out model she is today. There is a real poignancy to this feature, immensely personal and deeply heartfelt, which is a rarity in an industry where vacuity reigns.
