Respite can be difficult to find, especially in these dark days. There can be too much of everything and yet very little of any value whatsoever. Despite the introduction of color film nearly century ago, photographers never entirely abandoned black and white photography. The May 2019 issue of Vogue Czechoslovakia carries a 12-page story shot completely in black and white by photographer Omar Macchiavelli starring Maria Miguel that serves as a timely reminder of the power this monochromatic form. There is plenty of light and shadow, not to mention time and space in this editorial to drink in all that Maria brings to the page. Maria is coming into her own story after story and this is but one further standout entry on her growing CV.
