Meanwhile, somewhere in Paris…investigators have reportedly discovered cigarette ends at the scene of the devastating Notre-Dame Cathedral fire earlier this month. As the smoke dissipated, the wildly successful fundraising effort for restoration of the landmark then drew fire. Quelle controverse! Elsewhere in Paris, far from controversy, is an excellent story running in the May 2019 issue of Vogue Paris starring Anok Yai. Photographed by Sam Rock and styled by Aleks Woroniecka, the sprawling 16-page story is full of reward. Readers will surely savor the rich color palette Sam Rock marshals for his furtive street portraits of the Estée Lauder beauty as well as the refreshing studio takes. On page 182 (pictured) for example, Anok is shown wearing a Nubuck coat with a brushstroke pattern by Marni. The wide stance Anok employs calls to mind Andy Warhol’s 1963 silkscreen painting Double Elvis. In Warhol’s version, however Elvis is shown drawing a single-action Colt .45 in his lead role in the 1960 Western film Flaming Star. Anok needs no pistol, though, to fire off deadly shots page after page somewhere, anywhere in Paris.
