Although the 2019 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show wrapped up back in February, its hold on the imagination is certainly enduring. Fact is Westminster’s Best in Show is simply that, the apotheosis of canine breeding on the planet, mere mention of it conjures images of the highest distinction. Precisely at this point is where the May 2019 cover of Vogue Italia begins to hove into view with none other than Anok Yai on it standing tall clutching the chain collar of a magnificent Great Dane. Along the cover’s right margin reads the headline “Best in Show by Steven Klein.” Never mind this working dog, Prince, was not technically best in show this year (that title went to a Fox Terrier), standing at attention on the cover of Italian Vogue he might as well be. Really, though the headline was never about the hound, which is after all but a metaphor, best in show describes Anok. This top model, an Estée Lauder beauty, knows her away around a cover and positively shows it for her first ever Italian Vogue honor. This issue reaches newsstands starting Friday.
