The distance garments travel from runway to editorial can be fascinating so long as public relations does not spoil the journey. The May 2019 issue of GQ Portugal takes this trip seriously in a mostly motorcycle themed editorial starring Next’s very own Ghost Rider João Knorr. The look accumulating the most mileage in this story is a biker jacket and leather trousers by Alexander McQueen (pictured). When Sarah Burton presented her Spring 2018 menswear collection in Paris in June of last year, the collection notes emphasized the fact that “tailoring forms the backbone to this collection.” That is undoubtedly true, but what catches the eye is seeing the tailoring contextualized in altogether different circumstances, namely a motor bike garage. Of course this requires no great leap of the imagination to envision the commingling of motor oil and leather. What is novel, however is that it’s a look by Alexander McQueen that retails for north of €10,000. In other words, this is expensively rugged, like João Knorr himself.
