The legacy of Karl Largerfeld endures in the newly released autumn advertising campaign for the Fendi menswear collection. Readers will note the casting of Marjan Jonkman, a longtime favorite of the late German creative director. The Dutch stunner walked time after time for Lagerfeld in runway shows for Chanel and Fendi alike. Lagerfeld spent more than a half century working for the Italian luxury fashion house, which is to say the impression he left is indelible. This final men’s collection to be shown during his lifetime back in January was a love letter to asymmetrical tailoring if ever there was one. The campaign by photographer Mattia Zoppellaro under the artistic direction of Nico Vascellari extends this idea of asymmetry to its creative treatment, which makes use of composite imagery arrayed at various acute angles. All told, this is a timely reminder of Largerfeld’s contribution to Fendi and the wider fashion world, not to mention Marjan’s uncanny knack of landing roles in men’s campaigns.
