Another day, another institution succumbs to the crushing indifference of millennials. The most recent to tumble is sexuality, what with its rigid modalities chiseled into stone tablets sometime back during the reign of Queen Victoria. The latest cultural warriors bearing witness to this transformation do so in the June 2019 issue of M Le magazine du Monde in a cover story starring Next’s very own Robert Semjonovs, better known as Baby to friends and admirers alike. Photographed by Petra Collins and styled by Dean DeCriscio, the cover story celebrates “Le nouveau code amoureux” or “The new love code.” These new codes ranges from pansexuality to polyamory to gender fluidity. Binaries are out and so too are the strictures of digital thinking. To that end, Collins shot the cover using Polaroid film, the qualities of which are immediately apparent in the soft focus and warmth of color tone. Where millennials next strike or merely should shrug is anyone’s guess, but don’t put it past in-demand Baby to evoke whatever it is that has the zeitgeist kvetching.
