“Outside, summer may be peaking, but here at Vogue the month of August always means a look ahead to the autumn collections and the new ideas set to shape the coming season.” Edward Enninful might have been speculating when he penned his editor’s letter for the August 2019 issue of British Vogue, but data provided by Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has confirmed June 2019 to be the hottest June ever recorded. The climate science is unequivocal, but it is the heat of early autumn the editor-in-chief has in mind. To that end, Ugbad Abdi journeys with photographer Alasdair McLellan and stylist Kate Phelan to the windswept headland at Dungeness for a look at the coming collections for autumn. Bathed in the warm light of late afternoon, Ugbad (pictured) occupies a world without horizon, limitless in its possibility, wearing a sleeveless coat by Alaïa. Summer might have only begun, but it is Ugbad at the edge of the world who has called forth the coming season.
