Fashion has its fair share of abused forms, clichés that ought never enter any field of perception. The onus is forever on creatives to innovate and produce novelty in an industry where the derivative and unoriginal are invariably celebrated. The latest issue of V Magazine carries in it a story by photographer Sølve Sundsbø in which Ugbad Abdi not only puts in a solid editorial shift, 11 looks in all, but could very well advance the form even more than a little bit. OK, actually proving that last claim exceeds the remit of this page, but suffice to say this “Fierce Fall Fashion” story of hers is a banger, the likes of which are sure to occupy mood boards and imaginations of the future. Consider the opening look of the story, Ugbad (pictured) wears a dress and choker by Gucci and earrings by Shaun Leane. The 30-point earrings are first to pique reader attention, but it is Ugbad’s beauty that really earns it. Without Ugbad, those spikes would be silly and really so too would everything else.
