F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1920 debut novel This Side of Paradise provides the namesake for the Alasdair McLellan editorial running in the this Fall / Winter 2019 issue of LOVE. The then 22-year-old Fitzgerald completed the novel in the summer of 1919 and had it published the following spring. It is a tale young love beset with greed and worldliness, which even a century later sounds strikingly contemporary and provides a convenient point of departure for one final fashion editorial before the the 2020s. The story picks up for this page with Tang He, who figures throughout this sprawling celebration of fall fashion. Tang He (pictured) wears a white shirt and socks underneath a black leather cape Balmain with whom she shares with a fellow traveler. Is the party ending or is it just starting? Whichever is the case, Tang He is surely the life of it.
