The Acne Studios advertising campaign for Autumn / Winter 2019 broke today and focuses on a new generation and the accessories it carries. The intersection between this page and the campaign is none other than Delfin Finley, a portrait of whom by photographer Richard Burbridge appears alongside a still life of Acne Studios accessories. Distilled to its essence, a version of modern life is practically indistinguishable from data points gleaned using facial recognition software (portrait) and an abandoned shopping cart (still life). Whereas in any other context that description might sound bleak, it the context of luxury sales it could not be more resonant. Consumers and their stuff, that’s the gist of it. Delfin is no mere consumer, however, he is an artist. “My life story, I’d probably say that I make art to inspire change.” That sentiment is no bullshit either.
