Beauty is a subject for the ages. Philosophers, artists, aestheticians, all have weighed in on the matter over the centuries and yet consensus is elusive. Magazines on the other hand take up beauty in every issue at the front-of-book, which is what Vogue Italia does in its November 2019 edition with a story by photographer Richard Burbridge featuring Lily McMenamy and Sara Eirud. “Modern Beauty” as the feature is called dispenses with superfluities and leans in hard on the natural aesthetic, the “no makeup” look in fact with results that speak volumes for themselves. Bigger brains have problematized beauty in ways that this page will never work out, but this page will content itself with this month’s offering by Italian Vogue.
