Billie Eilish swept the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. If these words are news, then check the battery life on your smart phone because it’s been wall-to-wall coverage ever since the 18-year-old sensation bagged five Grammys. History has it that it was the first time in 39 years that a single artist swept the four major categories Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist. The last time (readers?) was Christopher Cross in 1981! Billie’s fifth honor was for Best Pop Vocal Album. Statuettes aside, Billie has captured no small praise for the way in which she pulled off the feat. Vanessa Friedman writing in The New York Times reckons, “Even before Billie Eilish took home five Grammys on Sunday, she had already won the night, at least as far as the game of super-one-upmanship that is the red carpet was concerned.” Billie claimed the red carpet as her own by doing what she has always done, play by rules all her own, wearing a custom, loose-fitting look by Gucci replete matching logoed nails. For the after party, Billie (pictured) donned even more Gucci. Hat tip to Billie, the world is hers.
