Simplicity and humility, not to mention self-exultation or excessive pride, are hallmarks of the Amish that have helped maintain this Protestant sect since its people settled in Pennsylvania in the 1730s. As a people, they don’t mix all that much with the outside world, which as a consequence the understanding between the two worlds can suffer. Although the March 2020 issue of Vogue Deutsch does not exactly go native on the topic, it does draw inspiration from the Amish for a wholly modern interpretation in a story by photographer Chris Colls with none other than Erika Linder. The story certainly trades in simplicity, which provides an ample canvas for Erika to paint an arresting portrait.
